‘Wife, mother and artist creating interpretative sculpture by harnessing the raw elements of nature: earth, fire, air and water. Beautifully unique and decorative pieces forged in the ancient art of raku.
Keeley evokes fragility in her art and uses materials which have been weathered naturally. Often this involves firing clay at lower temperatures and using glazes which, over time, can react to their environment. This natural decay hints at the circle of life: from the earth, of the earth, and back to the earth.’
Visit the exhibition every Thursday to Saturday 10am-5pm. Open evening Friday 9th September.
Join Keeley on Saturday 17th September for a demonstration and ‘have a go day’. More details to follow!
The next Showcase will run throughout February, March and April. We are excited to welcome three local artists to the showcase exhibition space, which is located on the first floor at designermakers21. Exhibiting work will be Keeley Chapman, Gemma Hill and Becky Whatley.
Visit the exhibition from the 3rd February during our opening hours Thursday to Saturday 10am-5pm.
Keeley Chapman – CeramicSculpture
Handmade clay sculptures, finished using a range of firing techniques including raku, saggar and smoke firing.
Gemma Hill – Photography
Gemma’s photographs often draw inspiration from nature, her dog and horse, and the local countryside. Framed and unframed prints available.
Images from the wild places of the local area, including fens and woodland. The pictures combine oil painting and pyrography, to emphasize the drawing. Needle felted animals in hand dyed colours, will also feature in this exhibition.
An opportunity to meet artist Fay Jones, whose wonderfully immersive solo show ‘Anima’ is on now in the Upstairs Gallery at designermakers21, and continues until Saturday 9th October.
The exhibition explores the magic of Breckland, and is an all encompassing sensory experience; the space is filled with the sounds, smells and textures of the environment which has inspired the works on display.
Fay will be at designermakers21 on Thursday 23rd October and Thursday 30th October, and will be available to answer any questions about the exhibition. No booking required, just come along and have a chat!
Featuring the work of Norwich University of the Arts BA Fine Art Year 3.
Inspired by Virginia Woolf, the exhibition is a discussion of the room, a place of liberation and autonomy or a space of oppression and incarceration. The artists explore their own relationship to the room – physically, mentally or metaphorically.
Visit the exhibition in our Upstairs Gallery during designermakers21 usual opening hours Thursday to Saturday 10am-5pm.
Fay Jones is pleased to present her first solo show, in the Upstairs Gallery at designermakers21. The exhibition will be open from Thursday 9th September during gallery hours Thurs-Sat 10am to 5pm.
“Breckland is a place of long mysteries and small wonders. Ignoring modern boundaries it is a strongly defined landscape that allows for deep thought and contemplation. By keen observation and many exploratory wanderings, the lands wild undercurrents become apparent.
Using the rich natural resources of this stark environment, the many notional fragments are now collected into a whole. Made in wood, bark, chalk and bone, with nods to the ways of earlier times by using experimentally cast bronze, wild plant fibres and natural dyes.”
